Description: Waylon's song about Ned Kelly, the Australian Jesse James, who nearly caused a revolution against the corrupt British rule in Australia through exploits as a reluctant outlaw after incessant oppression of him and his family at the hands of the local constabulary.
Also referred to as "The Armored Bandit" for his rather inventive, yet failed effort to fight off a hundred constables in his gangs final shootout by wearing suits of armor they had made out of steel plows. Already regarded as a folk hero for his acts of charity towards his fellow oppressed and downtrodden countrymen even before his death, a petition circulated and was delivered to the British government with over 20,000 signatures demanding Ned Kelly's release. The petition was rather audaciously denied, and Ned was hanged, making him a sort of Western-era martyr. Unlike many willing or reluctant freedom fighters and Nationalists, Ned Kelly was vindicated with his highly questionable execution rather than long after it.
